Influencing STEM Choices

This report is our review of current and recent research into the influences on girls from 0-5 and through the transition into primary school that shapes their attitudes to and interest in STEM subjects.

The report has 4 sections.

  • Section 1: The Introduction sets out the background and structure of the report and provides guidance on the navigational tools used in it.
  • Section 2: Key findings provides our summary of the main messages emerging from the research.
  • Section 3: The General literature review summarises key research reports we have identified from a range of sources.
  • Section 4: A review of papers from the European Journal of Education in STEM. This section draws on a 2018 issue of the Journal dedicated to STEM in early childhood
    education. This section highlights 7 papers of particular interest.
