CoderDojo runs free not-for-profit coding clubs. They teach young people to learn how to write computer code, develop websites, apps, programs, games and more. CoderDojo Belfast was founded by Belfast Metropolitan College in association with Momentum in April 2012. It makes development and coding fun and tries to make coding a sociable and rewarding experience. It aims to encourage young people aged 6-16 to pursue a career in ICT. CoderDojo Belfast runs every 2nd Saturday during term time at Belfast Metropolitans College’s Titanic Quarter Campus.
STEM Aware creates a connected learning platform to enhance and enrich learning. They use interactive and creative assemblies, workshops, classroom lessons, after-schools clubs, summer schemes and community events. In addition, they have developed STEM kits that can be sent to any location. STEM Aware will get everyone to think like a scientist, operate like an engineer and play like a child!
Bring IT On is a programme designed to encourage and educate young people about the career pathways into the IT industry. It is funded by the Department for the Economy and delivered by Belfast Metropolitan College. Bring IT On provides talks and careers advice to Primary, Post Primary, Post University and Further Education students. It can also help students with information about the qualifications required to obtain an job in technology as well as outlining the benefits of working in the sector. The aim is to help young people gain the necessary insight required to progress in the IT sector.
Sentinus gives young people, aged 5 – 17, real experience of research and development, problem solving, careers in STEM, attending our local universities and much more. It aims to spark excitement from an early age and inspire young people to study STEM and pursue careers in the sector. Taking part in Sentinus programmes helps young people of all ages develop important employability and STEM skills. This helps them prepare to become contributors to the local economy. They gain a real understanding of the value of STEM subjects as a foundation on which to build any career.
W5 is an award winning science & discovery centre. W5 provides a unique experience as well as fantastic fun for visitors of all ages. In addition to permanent exhibits, W5 also presents a changing programme of large and small scale temporary exhibitions and events. There is a daily programme of live science demonstrations and shows throughout the day!
