A new programme to upskill engineers and promote engineering as a career choice with local schools in your area has been launched by Manufacturing NI.
They would like engineering companies to identify 1-2 engineers in their company to take part as Engineering Ambassadors for their company. The engineer(s) would receive free mentoring and training from Camilla Long from Bespoke Communications to help promote awareness of engineering and highlight local employment opportunities to the schools in the Roe Valley Learning Partnership. This is all funded by the Royal Academy of Engineers.
The FREE programme (commencing late Sept/Oct 2021) would include the following;
- A communications Masterclass which teach Engineers to speak with confidence, clarity and charisma to inspire others with their Engineering journey. Engineers will be guided to build their storytelling skills, give them advice on developing their speaker presence and most of all make sure they identify the needs of their audience in order to make sure they have impact when they speak (Training will take place 1.5hrs online via zoom in Sept 2021)
- One2one coaching to help your engineers to prepare for a talk, podcast or panel event. This is a personal development opportunity for each individual to grow their communication skills with supportive advice in a confidential one2one environment (1hr session Oct 2021)
- Engineers event. This is where the group of engineers put all of the training into practice. They come together to speak in front of an audience of their peers with the benefit of tailored feedback from a skilled facilitator. This could be considered a final dress rehearsal for their appearance in front of their live school audience (Approx 1.5hrs Oct / Nov 2021)
- The entire programme is underpinned by an online Learning Experience platform, packed with resources and examples to help your engineers to build their skills. Engineers will also be supported by having access to an online community of both local engineers and through the Royal Academy of Engineering.
- Once the training has been completed, Manufacturing NI will run a series of engagement events (face to face or via zoom) with the Roe Valley Learning Network which includes; Limavady High School, Limavady Grammar School, St. Mary’s School, St. Patrick’s College, Dungiven, the North West Regional College and Rossmar Special School; Gaelcholáiste Dhoire (experienced presenter and journalist Sarah Travers (ex BBC presenter) will be working with Manufacturing NI to present these events).
- Participating Engineers will have the chance to showcase their employers in additional resources and school packs as well as through facilitated podcasts and other multimedia.
- Opportunity to attend Digitalisation & Industry 4.0 awareness events with partners such as Digital Catapult
Spaces are limited to 15 and will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. Closing date to register a participant is 24th September 2021.
